The Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) is the strategic and operational lead for the Florida Hospital Heartland retail fulfillment pharmacy. Must oversee technician and buyer workflow to ensure patient safety and efficient work flow. Must be capable of performing all staff pharmacist duties. Performance improvement and safety champion. The PIC is responsible for accomplishing the goals set forth by hospital leadership. To accomplish these goals, the PIC must exhibit leadership, empathy, innovation, collaboration, teamwork, passion, dedication and initiative to personal and staff development, and a strong commitment to “know the patient” and staff.
The PIC is responsible for assessing, managing, and monitoring the operations of the retail pharmacy staff. This includes being responsible for drug distribution, storage, security, control, and utilization. He/she is essential to an effective drug selection process. Concurrent review, intervention, and monitoring by the pharmacist will optimize medication therapy outcomes. It also means meeting patient needs, assessing the patient’s progress regarding drug therapy, providing education to patients, families, team members, and physicians as well as filling and verifying medication orders. The PIC will ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
Position responsibilities of the PIC at Adventist Health System require access to protected patient information (PHI). Staff team members will be accountable for appropriate use of the record and compliance with all confidentiality and security policies and procedures related to use, access, and disclosure of PHI.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Good Computer Skills related to the practice of pharmacy, in addition to, the ability to functionally use Microsoft systems; word, excel, outlook. Good clinical knowledge on all medications. Individual must have excellent skills in working with point of sale, inventory management systems, Pharmacy Information Systems.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
- Leadership to include staffing, operations, & pharmacy fulfillment
- Inventory control
- Pharmaceutical chemistry and compounding methods
- Drugs, chemicals, and pharmaceutical supplies required in the operation of a pharmacy
- State and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the legal operation of a pharmacy
- Medical record keeping requirements and procedures
- Storage, use, and dispensing of narcotics
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Graduate of an accredited pharmacy school with the degree of Pharmacy Doctor or Bachelors in Pharmacy with pharmacy management experience.
3 years of retail pharmacy management.
Individual must be effective at leading teams and providing an outstanding guest experience.
Experience in managing, recruiting, selecting, training and evaluating the performance of talented team members who are scheduled appropriately to meet the needs of the patients/consumers.
A proven track record of delivering organizational results through people.
Other duties and responsibilities as requested or assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Graduate degree; MBA, MS, MSHA, MPH, or other health related graduate program.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
State of Florida License as Registered Pharmacist
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
State of Florida License in Consultant Pharmacist
