The largest health care provider in Johnson County, Kansas, the SMH network includes SMMC and SMH - Prairie Star and will soon include SMH - Blue Valley, a third major health care facility. Our 54-acre campus at SMMC is comprised of the main hospital, a community health education building, six physician office buildings and an associate child care center. The Emergency Department at SMMC is the busiest in Johnson County. We deliver more babies each year at the Shawnee Mission Birth Center than any other hospital in the metropolitan area and our Center for Women’s Health is nationally recognized. We have seven Shawnee Mission Primary Care locations with more than 30 Board-certified doctors who specialize in family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics as well as Centra Care Shawnee Mission Urgent Care locations.


You will be responsible for:


  • Responsible for quality of services, operational management and human resource management for an assigned environment(s). 

  • Fosters the integration of the organization’s vision and values, and accomplishes the mission and strategic plan through an accountable work team. 

  • Collaborates with patients/customers, families, physicians, administration and associates to meet customer needs and expectations in a patient focused and healing environment. 

  • Uses critical thinking and demonstrates leadership skills in assuring that appropriate care is carried out for specific patient population(s). 

  • Promotes team work with physicians and personnel and all members of the health care team. 

  • Establishes the tone of the work environment and ensures that all personnel are competent, adhering to all policies of the department and organization and adhering to all behavior standards of Shawnee Mission Health.   

  • The manager is accountable for:

    • Development, initiation and analysis of an annual needs assessment to determine the strategic learning needs of the bedside clinician

    • Utilization of adult learning in the development and monitoring of competency and policy compliance

    • Recognition and integration of professional development/leadership skills required for building and leading successful patient care teams

    • Incorporation of information learned from process improvement initiatives and other strategic plans into the educational calendar

    • Management of a decentralized education staff across Shawnee Mission Health

    • Leads the team in development of outcome oriented learning strategies impacting patient outcomes

    • Development and synthesis of a “state of the art” simulation center into learning opportunities

    • Demonstration of timely communication and inclusive leadership skills to facilitate the rapidly changing needs of a learning organization

    • Engaging the staff in participation of Shared Leadership and Magnet structures, processes and activities at every opportunity.




What will you need?


  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Kansas Registered Nurse License

  • BCLS obtained through American Heart Association
