You will be responsible for:

  • NUTRITIONAL/CLINICAL SKILLS:
  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy.
  • General knowledge of nutrient analysis, word processing, basic computer skills, e-mail and spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to search the web for nutrition research or practice updates and apply knowledge to updating reference materials, preparing for presentations, education, etc.
  • Avails self to staff on units as the nutrition expert.
  • Performs Meal Test Trays 3 times per month (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
  • Attends  interdisciplinary meetings and rounds on assigned units as scheduled unless valid excuse demonstrated and MNT Manager and Unit RN Leader notified.
  • Attends assigned team and/or committee meetings unless valid excuse demonstrated and MNT Manager notified for alternate arrangements.
  • Assists in regulatory survey preparation when applicable.
  • Reviews and/or updates department resource/reference materials when applicable or required.
  • When confronted with barriers to meeting patient care standards, improves process by planning and implementing action steps.
  • Identifies specific patient or staff needs, initiates and develops educational or clinical materials then evaluates outcomes.
  • Assures that care delivered to each patient is in accordance with established standards.
  • Skill and knowledge in working with an electronic health record system.
  • Analyzes and interprets reliable assessment data to identify an actual occurrence, risk of, or potential for developing a nutrition problem.
  • Nutrition Diagnoses/Problems are included on the patient care plan and updated as more data becomes available, or signed off as applicable.
  • Provides appropriate intervention in accordance with the identified patient’s goals.
  • Identifies and follows through with potential complex discharge planning needs, intervenes early to promote timely attainment of goals.
  • Adheres to reassessment timeframe per standards. Reassesses and updates nutrition care process and implement changes as indicated.
  • Complies with National Patient Safety Goals regarding abbreviation usage, patient identification.
  • Assessment, interventions and procedures utilizing equipment are appropriate for age group.
  • ASSESSMENT Collection of comprehensive data pertinent to the patients.
  • NUTRITION DIAGNOIS: Analyzes the assessment data to determine nutrition diagnoses or problems.
  • GOALS/OUTCOMES:  Formulates goals/outcomes and determines plan of action.
  • INTERVENTION: Implements the identified plan.     
  • EVALUATION: Evaluates progress toward attainment of expected goals/outcomes.
  • COMMUNICTION:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written, electronic and verbal form to patients, public, staff, and physicians.
  • Ability to function independently on assigned patient care units and also with non-patient care duties (office, projects, committees).
  • Ability to counsel and educate others and adapt method of teaching style to accommodate different lifestyles or backgrounds. 
  • Attends monthly unit staff meeting as appropriate or provides information to submit for meeting.
  • Establishes and maintains positive communication with foodservice staff.
  • Communicates with patient and/or family whenever possible Communicates with the patient care team or Diet Office any pertinent data needed to ensure nutrition care plan is implemented.
  • Communicates with patient / parent/ guardian regarding plan of care based on assessed level of comprehension, understanding and readiness to learn.
  • Provides patient/parent education based on assessed education level, barriers to learning, and learning preferences.

  • Monitors and practices cost saving measures as it relates to supplies, equipment or patient care process as applicable.
  • OUTCOMES:
  • Utilizes established nutrition care process and critical thinking to collect, analyze and  interpret nutritionally pertinent data per established standards.
  • Assesses educational needs when pertinent.
  • Responds to consults and screenings within 48 hours of notification >95% of time.
  • Maintains score of >92% on Peer Reviews.
  • Etiology and signs/symptoms are clear and concise, specific to the patient,  and reflect evidence-based standards.
  • Selects specific goals that are reasonable, measureable and achievable for Average Length of Stay.
  • Documents outcomes on patient care plan and signs off and/or revises as applicable.
  • Evaluates achievement of learning objectives by the patient and/or family and documents results in appropriate area of medical record.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness and measures progress towards outcomes of medical nutrition therapy interventions.
  • Documents reassessment timeframe in appropriate area of medical record.
  • Identifies and collects performance improvement data, monitors outcomes, and initiates corrective actions.
  • PRACTICE:
  • Maintains safe practice by demonstrating clinical competency.
  • Demonstrates Age Specific Competency.
  • Integrates ethical decision making into daily practice.
  • Integrates research findings and Evidence Based Practice into practice.
  • Acts as a patient advocate. Demonstrates critical thinking skills appropriate to level of experience.
  • Integrates population specific standards when planning care    
  • GROWTH/LEADERSHIP:
  • Shows desire and initiative to increase knowledge and skills based on job needs, goals and performance evaluation feedback - must share plan with manager.
  • Plans and attends CEU programs relevant to practice area or to achieve goals per above.
  • Accesses professional websites frequently to stay abreast of current practice and research.
  • Familiar with evidence based practice standards and how to utilize information in daily practice.
  • Integrates latest research findings into practice -able to discuss topics at staff meetings; updates peers on applicable topics.

 

Qualifications

What will you need?

  • Completes a minimum of a bachelor's degree at a U.S. regionally accredited university or college and course work approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of The Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND).
  • Completes a CADE-accredited supervised practice program at a healthcare facility, community agency, or a foodservice corporation, or combined with undergraduate or graduate studies.
  • 1 year experience in a clinical setting.
  • Didactic program with strong focus in clinical nutrition (preferred)
  • Worked as a Registered Dietitian for at least one year in hospital OR two-plus years in related health care or clinical setting (preferred)
  • Registered and Certified Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics; Florida Licensure.
  • For Pediatric MNT position, Certification as Pediatric Nutrition Specialist.  For Critical Care MNT, Certification as Nutrition Support Dietitian (preferred)
