At Florida Hospital at Connerton Long Term Acute Care, we deliver meaningful care by getting to know our patients and their families. Our 50-bed hospital is designed to serve individuals who have medically complex illnesses requiring additional weeks of specialized hospital care.
 
The unique care environment of a long-term acute-care hospital means that our patients and their visitors will spend more time with us than at other hospitals. For that reason, we've designed our hospital to be a comfortable environment. Our specially trained staff are not only experts in providing advanced care, but also have friendly, compassionate personalities that help ease the stress that can be associated with long-term illnesses. The 48,000-square foot, one-story Florida Hospital at Connerton Long Term Acute Care features all private rooms, an operating room for minor inpatient procedures, a chapel, inner courtyard and dining area.
 
 
You will be responsible for:
  • Facilitates annual education needs assessment for LTAC clinical staff. Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of professional development practices.
  • Develops programs for department or group specific needs, to respond to trends identified via quality reporters, and based on identified educational needs and staff/leadership requests. Program development includes, but is not limited to: Clinical ladder program, preceptor program, and RN residency program, new employee training program, performance and compliance competency program, student/school affiliation program, hourly rounding, and critical care program.
  • Analyzes the assessment data to determine the target audience and the learner needs.
  • Analyzes content of educational materials for best-practice or evidence-based practice. 
  • Identifies the general purpose and educational objectives for each learning activity as evidenced by clearly defined objectives and purpose for the learning activity. Identifies expected outcomes that incorporate scientific evidence and are achievable through implementation of evidence-based practices.
  • Participates in and uses evidence-based research to identify strategies for improving professional development activities, nursing practice and patient outcomes
  • Participates in research activities appropriate to level of education and experience.
  • Identifies and collaborates with content experts to develop activities to facilitate learners’ achievement of the educational objectives. Leads a team or committee in the development of an evidence-based protocol or program, either within area of specialty or organization wide.
  • Ensures that the planned educational activities are achieved as evidenced by development of course outlines and curriculum.
  • Provides learning activities for clinical staff at least 4 times per year as evidenced by competency skills fairs, orientation classes, in-services, Resource Nurse training, joint commission fairs, safety fairs, and continuing education programs.
  • Conducts an annual educational survey and uses information to plan programs requested by staff.
  • Conducts a comprehensive evaluation of the education/program activity.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of activity and makes appropriate changes to ensure objectives are achieved.
  • Uses the results of evaluation analysis to make or recommend process or structural changes, including policy, procedure, protocols, or documentation.
  • Facilitates unit based or organizational competency validation, specific to cultural/spiritual needs, by developing skill content to be tested or acts as content expert and validates competency.
  • Develops creative educational offering for staff, focused on cultural diversity and sensitivity and participates in the implementation
  • Supports the safe practice of clinical staff by providing expertise in the review and revision or writing of new policy /procedure/protocol.
  • Attends continuing education program with focus on safe practice of nursing.
  • Presents an educational program or in-service with focus on safe practice of nursing.
  • Oversees the LTAC orientation program which includes staff, students and volunteers.
  • Develops and promotes clinical advancement recognition program to enhance staff development.
  • Oversees clinical orientation program from Preceptor development to individualized staff orientation.
  • Promotes staff retention by assisting staff with competency, development and involvement/engagement.
  • Acts as part of the clinical leadership team; engages physicians, clinicians and outside sources in educational activities.
  • Participates in planning and delivery of annual regional conference providing LTAC subject matter experts.
  • Monitors Interdisciplinary Team Meetings and C3 conferences and makes recommendations to improve the processes as well as tailors staff education around meaningful IDT.
  • Engages with patients and families to identify and assist with educational needs.
  • Works with all clinical disciplines, ancillary disciplines and Case Management to identify education needs; this includes but is not limited to RT, PT/OT/ST, Pharmacy, Dietary, Wound Care and Nursing.
  • Acts as a leadership ambassador rounding on patients and staff as assigned.
  • Oversees Mosby Skills and Net Learning program as well as CE Direct.
Qualifications
What will you need:
  • Knowledge of program development, educational assessment, planning, and evaluation. 
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission standards.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice and the adult learner.
  • Knowledge of the creation/facilitation of new hire training programs and competencies, preceptor programs, and RN residency program. (Preferred)
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
  • Bachelor’s Degree or related specialty field
  • Three years of acute experience
  • Past experience with hospital education
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or a related field (Preferred)
  • Critical Care, three years’ experience (Preferred)
  • Experience with local clinical school affiliations (Preferred)
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Florida, or licensure from another state with verification of application and eligibility for Florida licensure by endorsement.
  • BLS Instructor (or within 6 months of hire)
  • ACLS Instructor (or within 6 months of hire)
